Brynjar Hoff is one of Scandinavia's most distinguished musicians. His particularly beautiful sound has contributed efficiently to bringing the oboe into its present favour as a solo instrument. His repertoire covers a maximum of styles - from the baroque to the contemporary, including jazz, folk tunes and light entertainment. More than sixty contemporary works have been specially written for him, which makes him an active promoter of new music for the oboe. As a solo artist, Brynjar Hoff has recorded close to thirty records. Of these, his two volumes of "Oboe Concertos" with English Chamber Orchestra have proved particularly successful. In 1995 Brynjar Hoff celebrated his fortieth anniversary as a professional artist. 3 various recordings were issued to mark this celebration; "The Art of Brynjar Hoff", featuring his recording of Mozart (rewarded by the first Norwegian "Grammy" prize for classical music), Schumann, Britten and Reizenstein. "Gabriel's Oboe" containing church music, baroque music and folk tunes was the second release. The third was "The Contemporary Oboe" containing works written for Hoff. The releases give a full perspective of this extraordinary interpreter. |
